Austin H. Middleton, M.D.
Orthopaedic Shoulder Surgeon
Dr. Austin H. Middleton is a Milwaukee native and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the shoulder and elbow. His expertise encompasses the full spectrum of shoulder conditions, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder arthritis, instability, fractures, sports injuries, and complex shoulder replacement and revision surgery.
Dr. Middleton earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he also completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery. During residency, he was recognized for excellence in patient care and was elected Administrative Chief Resident. He subsequently completed advanced fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, where he gained experience treating complex shoulder conditions and caring for high-level athletes, including the Boston Celtics.
His training has also included specialized experiences with internationally recognized leaders in shoulder surgery in Zurich, Switzerland, and Paris, France. These experiences have provided him with exposure to advanced techniques in shoulder arthroplasty, complex reconstruction, and emerging surgical technologies.
Dr. Middleton believes the best treatment begins with understanding each patient’s symptoms, goals, and lifestyle. He takes time to educate patients about their diagnosis and treatment options and works with each individual to develop a personalized plan designed to restore function and return them to the activities they enjoy.
